Upcoming education/training opportunities for persons receiving temporary protection

PrepProg – Preparatory Programme for Higher Education Studies in English (30 ECTS)

  • Designed for persons residing in Finland who have been granted temporary protection.
  • The objective is to develop English language skills and other skills required for higher education studies. The training may also include Finnish or Swedish language studies, depending on the student’s choice.
  • A minimum B1 level of English language proficiency is required for the training.
  • The programme will be offered online from September 12, 2023, to February 16, 2024. Almost daily online meetings are included in the studies.
  • Applications are open and close on April 30, 2023.
  • The training is free of charge.

Networks for a Career in Finland – Studies for Highly Educated Immigrants (35 ECTS)

  • Designed for highly educated immigrants residing in Finland, including those who have been granted temporary protection.
  • The aim is to supplement expertise without completing a new degree and build professional networks. The course also includes Finnish language studies corresponding to the student’s own language proficiency.
  • The training can be completed in Finnish or English. A minimum B1 level of proficiency in Finnish or English is required.
  • The training starts on August 22, 2023, and the duration is 6-11 months, depending on the student’s choice.
  • Some of the teaching is held on-site. The training also includes online studies and practical training. Applications are open and close on June 4, 2023.
  • The training is free of charge for those receiving temporary protection. For others, the price is 420 €.

Open Programming and Database Courses – Training for Those Receiving Temporary Protection (5–28 ECTS)

  • Designed for persons residing in Finland who have been granted temporary protection.
  • The courses are part of the ICT degree training curriculum.
  • Participation is possible in one or more courses. The courses will be offered in spring 2023 and autumn 2023.
  • The studies are free of charge.

Becoming a Nurse in Finland

  • Targeted at nurses who have graduated outside of the EU and EEA and who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • The aim of the education is to enable them to work as nurses in Finland.
  • The education requires at least an A2.1 level proficiency in Finnish language.
  • Applications are accepted continuously until May 31, 2024.
  • The education is free of charge, but the student is responsible for any permit fees charged by Valvira.
